This year in Dare I have learned a lot. A couple of things I’ve learned and I already knew is that drugs can hurt you. They are bad and I knew they could but I didn’t know they could this much so stay away from them as much as you can. Don’t DARE to touch them or get near them at anyway try to avoid the situation.

I learned that it’s not smart to drink and drive because we wore D.U.I. goggles and it makes your eyes blurry and you can’t see and you definitely can not walk a straight line unless you’re a pro at it. Plus you could really hurt someone so listen to the cops and everyone else and take their advice don’t drink and drive and just don’t plain out drink. Drinking could put you in a life or death situation and someone else and after you do your breath doesn’t smell real fond either. So don’t do it.

Another thing is smoking, it doesn’t matter what you smoke, it damages brain cells. Smoking cigarettes damages them and smoking marijuana completely wipes them out. Plus marijuana is illegal in all states except for medicine and that’s only in a couple. Smoking cigarettes is illegal for people under 18 too. Smoking also effects your body like with the jar of tar and it’s full of black tar and once you see it you wouldn’t want it in you. Smoking can cause lung cancer which some of you know that it could kill you also it causes breathing problems and for kids it stops their growth and no one wants to have an undeveloped body their whole life. Smoking cigarettes also has this substance called nicotine and it is really addictive so once you start you can’t stop. Again take it from your family, friends and peers don’t do it.

I have learned to use the D.A.R.E decision making model which is Define Assess Respond and Evaluate when I use this I make better choices. Like an example is when I get asked to do stuff I don’t say yes right away, I stop and think about it. The other day I was at home by my-self and there was a knife and I was going to play with it. Instead of that I kind of thought about the D.A.R.E decision model and try to make the best choice and I didn’t play with it.

Some of my goals for life  is that I want to never ever do drugs so I will try to avoid the situation and try not to do anything bad that can hurt my body or my-self.

A commitment I have made to Deputy Thomas, myself, my friends and my family to stay away from drugs as much as I can and I just want to thank Deputy Thomas and Mr. McGuire for letting us have D.A.R.E. It was one of our best things in Language arts. Thanks.

I think that yes integrity does matter to a sixth grader. I think integrity should matter for everyone. I think I have integrity like Kevin because if something is going to hurt a friends of mine or anyone then I don’t think they need to know unless they want to and sometimes they might have to.

Like say if someone is going to die and then they will need to know but if the person will be really sad then I say keep it to your-self for now then you can tell someone later.

Bad integrity is when there’s a $200 baseball bat laying on the ground and no one is around it. So would you pick it up and keep it or would you leave it there or pick it up and maybe someone has their name on it so then you can give it back.

My integrity is in between because if someone ask me to do something I do it unless it’s. Another sign of good integrity is respect other people. Like who you live with, your friends and piers, and maybe in some cases your friends parents.

So yes everyone should have integrity and it should be good integrity so you get what you want in life…..

Here is my response to the question on The Reading Workshop about controlling my destiny.

I think I do control my destiny because I think that I can make a good choice and then I’ll be able to do what I want but not always because if I try out for something and it’s already taken then I don’t have any control over it.

So I think it depends on whether I have a good or bad destiny.

I think I have most control on my destiny since I do almost everything I’m told and it may not get done right then but I’ll work my way to it so I can choose to stay out of trouble or not.

The thing I’m doing to control my destiny is that I get good grades and make good choices and that eventually leads to college. Even though it may not float everyone’s boat it’s okay because I try to think my choices trough and try to do what’s right at the moment and look at it when I’m in the future.

I would be willing to bet that most students don’t realize their potential.  They underestimate their ability to think, read, write, and produce high quality work.  Although they are working, they are not even close to maximum output.

Don’t get me wrong.  Students in Reading Workshop have really been putting forth a lot of effort.  As we scream down the test prep road preparing for the Ohio Achievement Assessment on April 27, students have been working hard and showing excellent growth in their ability.  However, I just don’t believe they know the limits of their capabilities.  And, I know they are not even close to putting forth maximum effort.

My response to that is:

I think I’m around a 75 but I know I can do way better. I try in class and I try my hardest but if I focus then I will try my hardest and I will also succeed to 100 but I can’t do that if I don’t put all of my effort into it and focus. Even if I get an “A” it’s not above 100% and it’s not an “A+”.

So if I try my hardest I think I can get to around 90 but if I try more than my hardest I can be like Brock and reach the 100 mark. My goal may be 90 but if I really try and push it like Brock in the video then I know I can reach 100 and be definitely ready for the OAT.

The video of Brock really inspires me to not give up and to give it my all not my best but my all. So in the next two weeks and on the OAT I will be taking a lot more time on the tests and try to give it my all and think of the video and what Brock did to succeed like I want to.

The people I see him helping a lot are also people who help him a lot. I think that relates to the commercial. Noah has helped me out a lot too.

One time at gym  Shaylee got hit in the face with a dodge-ball and Noah was almost the first one over there since he was on her team.

I think that Noah would help anyone no matter what if they are his friend or not. Noah would have to be one of the best helping hands in this school and I don’t think that will change about him either.

Another person that comes to mind when we watched this is Garrett.

Garrett is always trying to help on the bus and in the class room. Even outside of school. For example when Garrett, Seth and I went sledding and Seth and I got thorns stuck in our face Garrett was the first one to notice and help us and ask us what happen.

Another person that comes to mind is Josh. Josh is always helping me when I’m hurt, sad, and mad or just to give me comfort. Last time I was at Josh’s house I busted my lip on a truck bed and Josh was shooting hoops with his little bro but as soon as he saw me he stopped and help me.

Garrett, Noah and Josh are all very help and never be mean or unhelpful.

The book I was reading is Chasing Yesterday.

In my book the most exciting thing in my book that makes me keep reading is the action and adventure. The book is never-ending, it will never stop you somewhere. If you want to quit reading then you’ll have to finish the book before you stop. Every sentence is so intense and non-stop excitement

In my book that I was reading you could make yourself in that place but most likely you wouldn’t want to. You can literally feel your heart beating every flip of the page or paragraph. You can even feel butterflies in your stomach. This book is the best book ever if you ask me.

If you read the first one then you can’t let the second one dangle in front of you, and it might as well be taunting you. As soon as you grasp on to the second one then the same thing will happen with the third. In other words if you read one then you might as well read the series.

Hammurabi ruled from 1792 b.c. to 1750 b.c. He was born in the 19th, some people say it was around 1810 b.c. He came from ancient Mesopotamia. The river Hammurabi came from is called the Euphrates River. Ancient Mesopotamia is what now is Iraq. Ancient Mesopotamia is and was located between the Tigris River and Euphrates River.

Hammurabi wanted to control all city-states around him, so he damned key parts of the Euphrates River to give the other villages to much water or did not give them enough water and finally weakened the other villages enough to going and take them over.
